Through a partnership with the American Concrete Institute (ACI), the Colorado Ready Mixed Concrete Association (CRMCA) administers ACI Certifications. Follow the links below for more detailed information and to register for your ACI Certification. You can also use the Certification Calendar to view ACI Certifications. Contact the CRMCA with any questions.

Unless otherwise noted all ACI certifications listed below are NOT training classes. Self-study is required.

Field Testing Technician Grade 1:

A Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I is an individual who has demonstrated the knowledge and ability to properly perform and record the results of seven basic field tests on freshly mixed concrete.

Concrete Strength Testing Technician:

A Concrete Strength Testing Technician is an individual who has demonstrated the knowledge and ability to properly perform, record, and report the results of four basic ASTM laboratory procedures related to the determination of concrete compressive and flexural strength.

Aggregate Testing Technician Level 1:

An Aggregate Testing Technician – Level 1 is an individual who has demonstrated the knowledge and ability to properly perform, record, and report the results of basic field and laboratory procedures for aggregates.

Aggregate Testing Technician Level 2:

An Aggregate Testing Technician – Level 2 is an individual who has demonstrated the knowledge and ability to properly perform, record, and report the results of advanced laboratory procedures for aggregates. ACI states individuals must possess a current certification as an Aggregate Testing Technician – Level 1 to grant certification of Aggregate Testing Technician – Level 2. CRMCA recommends registrants be certified as an Aggregate Testing Technician – Level 1 prior to scheduling this certification.

Laboratory Testing Technician Level 2:

A Concrete Laboratory Testing Technician – Level 2 is an individual who has demonstrated the knowledge and ability to properly perform, record, and report the results of advanced laboratory procedures for aggregates and concrete. ACI states individuals must possess a current certification in ACI Concrete Laboratory Testing Technician – Level 1. A person having concurrent certifications in ACI Concrete Strength Testing Technician and Aggregate Testing Technician – Level 1 is equivalent to the Laboratory Testing Technician – Level 1 certification. Individuals must also have one year (2000 hours) of work experience in concrete and concrete aggregate laboratory testing. Aggregate Base Testing Technician:

An Aggregate Base Testing Technician is an individual who has demonstrated the knowledge and ability to properly perform, record, and report the results of basic field and laboratory procedures for fine aggregates and soils.

Flatwork Finisher Finisher/Technician:

A Concrete Flatwork Finisher is a craftsman who has demonstrated the ability to place, consolidate, finish, edge, joint, cure and protect concrete flatwork.

A Concrete Flatwork Technician is a person who is knowledgeable about proper procedures to place, consolidate, finish, edge, joint, cure and protect concrete flatwork, but who lacks sufficient work experience to qualify as a concrete flatwork finisher.

Note, the in-person courses offered include a half day training session.

Specialty Commercial/Industrial Concrete Flatwork Finisher/Technician:

A Specialty Commercial/Industrial Concrete Flatwork Finisher & Technician is a person who has demonstrated a basic knowledge of finishing procedures for Specialty Commercial/Industrial Concrete Flatwork Finishing, including high tolerance floor construction, application of surface treatments, and silica fume concrete, and who has demonstrated skill in operating mechanized finishing equipment.

A Specialty Commercial/Industrial Concrete Flatwork Technician is a person who has demonstrated a basic knowledge of finishing procedures for Specialty Commercial/Industrial Concrete Flatwork Finishing, including high tolerance floor construction, application of surface treatments, and silica fume concrete, but who lacks sufficient work experience and verified skills needed to qualify as a Specialty Commercial/Industrial Concrete Flatwork Finisher & Technician.

Concrete Construction Special Inspector:

A Concrete Construction Special Inspector is a person qualified to inspect and record the results of concrete construction inspection based on codes and job specifications. The program covers inspection during preplacement, placement, and post-placement operations.

Concrete Transportation Construction Inspector:

A Concrete Transportation Construction Inspector is a person who has demonstrated proficiency in concrete inspection methods for transportation projects, including preplacement, placement, and post-placement operations. A Concrete Transportation Construction Inspector-in-Training is a person who has demonstrated knowledge in concrete inspection methods for transportation projects, but does not have the experience required to qualify as an ACI Concrete Transportation Construction Inspector.

CDOT-CRMCA Concrete Pavement Inspector Certification:

A Construction Inspector Certification is required for any person who inspects concrete pavement on CDOT projects.  For CDOT concrete paving projects, either the ACI Concrete Transportation Construction Inspector or this course will be accepted.

ACI Certification Re-examination of Written/Performance Exams:

Use the links above to register for written only or performance only exams (retests). Individuals must pass both the written and the performance exams, as appropriate, within one year of each other to be considered for certification.

Special Requests:

If ADA accommodations, an exam in a foreign language, or other special request is desired for an individual, please contact CRMCA at emma@coloradocaa.org to submit the request.

  • ACI Certification programs provided through the CRMCA are ADA compliant. ADA accommodation requests must be submitted with the appropriate advanced notice to allow for CRMCA and ACI approval before scheduling will occur.
  • Exams for certification, both written and performance, may or may not be available in the desired foreign language. Requests for exam administration in a foreign language must be submitted to CRMCA with the appropriate advanced notice to allow for verification and coordination of the exam and/or a translator. ACI can be contacted directly at aci.certification@concrete.org or 248.848.3790 to determine if the desired foreign language is available for a specific certification exam.
