August 2016 President’s Blog

Hello CRMCA members,

august-presidents-blog

Clockwise: Past Presidents at the 2015 Annual Conference; 2015 Clay Shoot; Last year’s Jay Martin Memorial Golf Tournament; Winners from last year’s Concrete Clay Shoot.

As the 2016 summer comes to a close the CRMCA membership gears up for a busy fall. I am looking forward to the progress with the testing standards adherence program, concrete scaling study, and upcoming member events. Read on for details on these topics.

In late July the CRMCA board of directors voted to allocate additional funding to the testing standards adherence program. This month staff has spent time working on implementing the items necessary to begin website redevelopment and in turn database and app development. Their goal is to have this program up and running on the new platform by the end of the year.

Concrete scaling and mortar flaking of finished exterior concrete flatwork is an issue that ready mixed concrete producers have experienced for decades. The Southern Market Committee presented an abstract on this topic to the board of directors this summer. In the abstract the committee proposed a study to illustrate the relationship between proper testing techniques and the mitigation of concrete surface damage. The board has approved funding for this study which will begin on Monday, August 29 with a pre-construction meeting (view the detailed timeline). Please contact Southern Market Committee Chair, Cole Jacobs, to get involved with this project.

Mark your calendars and register for the following events:

  • Jay Martin Memorial Golf Tournament: Tuesday, September 20 at the Eisenhower Golf Course in Colorado Springs.
  • Concrete Clay ShootMonday, September 26 at Colorado Clays in Brighton.
  • Annual Conference: Thursday, November 17 – Friday, November 18 at the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs. Details and registration out in September.

I look forward to seeing many of you at an event or two later this year. Don’t hesitate to reach out to Todd, Stevie, Annelise, or me with any questions. Thank you for your continued support of CRMCA!
